DBT-V:Visual
and Experiential DBT
Goal: To explore and learn DBT
skills through visual and experiential activities. Martha Dyer, Art Therapist and Meggan Moorhead, DBT
skills trainer have spent a year creating visual tasks (collage, imagery,
drawing, coloring, painting) as well as experiential and somatic exercises
to help people learn DBT skills who are not primarily word oriented.
Why:
- It helps us to retain skills in different and sometimes more meaningful
ways.
- Because many are visual and experiential learners
- Because it challenges us to think about DBT skills in new ways
- Because it is fun
What we will do:
- Explore DBT through structured art and experiential activities
- Have opportunities to be creative in a safe and nonjudgmental environment
- Use a great variety of art materials including colored papers, glue,
picture cut-outs, collage, drawing tools, paint and more.
- Share group art experiences and have time to work individually
- Practice mindfulness together during every session
Who is this group for:
- Therapists who want exposure to skills in a new medium
- DBT graduates who want to explore skills in a creative way
- Individuals interested in learning DBT in creative experiential format
- People who are oriented through imagery and sensation
